Shaping the Future
This year’s theme, Shaping the Future, gets right to the heart of what ARTsmart stands for in our mission and vision and what we strive to do for the youth of northern New Mexico. The children that are affected by ARTsmart’s visual arts programming really will shape and sculpt the future –for themselves as well as for those around them. This year we want to show you a great time and emphasize what ARTsmart does, who we are, who we serve, and how we can do it all thanks to YOU.
It was an unanimous decision to return to La Fonda On the Plaza for great food, great service, and the beautiful venue. This year we won’t disappoint with 3 entree choices for everyone’s palates. Indicate your entree choices when you purchase tickets.
Entree Choice 1: Filet Mignon & Tamal
Char-grilled six-ounce filet with steamed red chile pork tamal (tamale) served with roasted tomato salsa, asadero cheese, chef’s choice vegetable, and calabacitas rancheras.
Entree Choice 2: Char-Grilled Atlantic Salmon
Char-grilled Atlantic salmon served with quinoa pilaf, chef’s choice vegetable, and roasted yellow pepper vinaigrette.
Entree Choice 3: Roasted Cashew Cake (vegetarian)

All choices will come with spinach salad, bread and butter, red and white wine, and dessert served at your table.
Honorary Artist: Heidi Loewen
Our Honorary Artist for 2018-19 is Santa Fe’s Heidi Loewen. Loewen is a ceramics artist, instructor, and gallery owner and worked with Santa Fe High School art students to create amazing works of ceramic art for this year’s auction. Students created fantastical shoe sculptures, everything from sneakers to stilettos, for decorative delight. Half of the sales of the student work go directly to the students and half goes back to their school’s art program.
Heidi will have an original ceramic piece for sale in the live auction, deliver a short speech at the dinner, and there will be a viewing of ARTsmart’s 2019 Honorary Artist video featuring her and her work with the SFHS students.
Special Guest: Katarina Pittis
Katarina Pittis is ARTsmart’s 2014 Art Changes Lives Scholarship winner who is now living and working in New York City as a freelance photographer and videographer. She will say a few words about what ARTsmart means to her and share some video and images of what she has been working on since graduating from NYU. View her portfolio here.
This year Auctioneer MacKenzie Allen returns to whip guests into a bidding frenzy. We’ll have loads of exciting live and silent auction items to tempt everyone including original art from Honorary Artist Heidi Loewen and her ceramic shoes sculpture project with Santa Fe High School students, plates and dog bowls painted by 5th graders from ARTsmart Children’s Painted Ceramics Project, and many more wonderful items donated by local artists and businesses.
