Reaching Out

In our world of online chatter, social pressures, bullying, and feelings of hopelessness, many children simply aren’t being heard. At ARTsmart New Mexico we listen. And thanks to your support, we hear and reach out to children in need.

On November 28, 2017, ARTsmart is participating in GivingTuesdaya  global giving movement in all 50 states and across the world. Millions of people come together to support community causes in which they believe. We hope you will join us in reaching out to northern New Mexico kids through our ARTreach programs which bring ARTsmart instructors into schools that don’t have regular visual art teachers.

Providing a respectful, safe learning environment, ARTsmart instructors motivate children to observe the world and express their feelings about it. Given quality art materials, the students are introduced to techniques and processes for expressing those feelings, all the while reminded that Art = Choice. They learn vocabulary for talking about the artworks they poured their hearts into and that same language helps them speak about artworks made by their peers in our positive feedback critiques. ARTreach students learn to see clearly and benefit from mistakes. Ultimately, they perceive themselves as unique, capable, and worthwhile.

Thank you for listening and reaching out to kids in our ARTreach programs. Please return on November 28, 2017, when our donation page goes live. Your $150 donation will give a child a once-a-week art class for a semester. And $300 keeps that child engaged and growing in confidence for the school year!  However, any amount helps ARTsmart open a child’s eyes and mind.

With appreciation,
Amanda Thomas, ARTsmart Program Director
