4 APRIL 2008. Mary Harbour, president of ARTsmart, which organizes and produces the annual ARTfeast, announced that the 11th annual weekend of events on February 21-24 set a record in raising funds for art projects targeted to the youth of Santa Fe.

“We far exceeded our expectations,” she said. Funds were generated from donors, underwriters and ticket sales, as well as by auctions of services, products, artworks by professional artists and by children in ARTsmart projects, such as the “I Made It!” plate project. “Santa Feans, as well as people from across the state and nation are becoming aware that the arts enhance a child’s problem-solving skills, building their confidence in imaginatively facing life’s challenges,” Harbour added.

While expenses involved in producing the weekend of art and cuisine are still coming in, Harbour said that $100,000 will be earmarked for art projects for Santa Fe youth, representing a $10,000 increase over the 2007 donation.

Just as significantly, this year ARTsmart made a concerted effort to raise funds for two endowments, which will ensure that future generations of young people get an exposure to the visual arts. “Through special appeals at each of our events, we raised $30,000 for the Santa Fe Gallery Association Scholarship and $30,000 for the general ARTsmart fund,” Harbour said.

Added to monies distributed over the past ten years, ARTsmart will have given more than $636,000 to the youth of Santa Fe. “In a city built on and sustained by the arts, ARTsmart is committed to funding the creative thinkers of tomorrow,” Harbour said.

ARTsmart gratefully acknowledges the donors, underwriters, ticket buyers and the countless volunteer businesses, individuals and educators who make this project such a success. The 2009 ARTfeast fundraiser is scheduled for February 20-22, 2009.
