ARTfeast in Top 3ARTfeast in Top 315 AUGUST 2008. During the spring of 2008, sixty-thousand readers of the Santa Fe Reporter voted on their top picks in a variety of categories, from Arts & Entertainment to Food and Dining. In the category of Best Food Event in Santa Fe, ARTfeast was voted Top 3, as reported in the Santa Fe Reporter‘s 23-29 July 2008, Best of Santa Fe issue.

Creative Thinking. “We are thrilled with the recognition,” beamed ARTsmart President Connie Axton. “In the past eleven years, ARTfeast has gone from a one-evening event to an entire weekend of fabulous food and art, the proceeds of which support a goal that Americans truly believe in— inspiring youth to be innovative problem solvers in all aspects of their lives through making art, which stimulates visual, analytical, and emotional creativity.”

ARTfeast 2008 resulted in $100,000 donated to a variety of children’s art projects, including several overseen by ARTsmart, the nonprofit organizer of ARTfeast, in cooperation with the art teachers in the Santa Fe Public Schools. In addition, ARTsmart has established endowments in the amount of $60,000 to ensure that future generations explore the most creative alternatives. Since its inception in 1993, ARTsmart has committed just under $650,000 to stimulating the hearts and minds of the City Different’s schoolchildren.

Explore and Imagine. The 12th Annual ARTfeast, which takes place 20-22 February 2009, brings together world-class chefs and restaurants, an international array of vintners, designer fashions, and unique homes, along with nationally and regionally prominent artists represented by members of the Santa Fe Gallery Association.

This year’s Honorary Artist Fran Larsen is a longtime resident of Santa Fe, who says that her colorful paintings are a “metaphor for living. The small towns hidden in the northern valleys remind me of my childhood. I try to capture the familiarity of small town life where the whole town becomes the backyard for a child’s explorations and imaginings.”
