Friday, July 17, 2015, ARTsmart President Connie Axton accepted a donation of $11,600 to ARTsmart’s scholarship fund from Inn of the Governors, a lodging facility located in downtown Santa Fe. On this occasion, Axton said “scholarships are critically important to serving our mission to provide enriching programming to all youth in Northern New Mexico. We are grateful to Inn of the Governors for supporting our meaningful outreach to at-risk youth.”

According to Samuel Gerberding, General Manager, Inn of the Governors, “We are delighted to be working with ARTsmart, both as a business partner fostering Santa Fe’s unique appeal and as a community partner serving our local needs.” He went onto say, “As art is one of Santa Fe’s cornerstone attractions, it only makes sense to support efforts that expose local youth to the benefits of art—youth who might otherwise not experience the personal growth and awareness art can provide.”

The generous donation was raised during a promotion at Inn of the Governors in celebration of their 50th anniversary. During 2015 when a guest purchased a three-night stay at the regular rate they received a fourth night for $50. From April to June, $50 from the final night were donated to ARTsmart. ARTsmart Vice President Mark Greenberg said, “It has been a pleasure working with Sam and Inn of the Governors during ARTsmart’s fundraising events. We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship.”

Since 1990, ARTsmart has taught art, literacy, and life skills to thousands of Northern New Mexico kids. By fostering creative thinking, encouraging individuality, and supporting critical analysis, ARTsmart reduces truancy, improves grades, and inspires the realization of dreams. ARTsmart thanks the Inn of the Governors for helping us realize our mission!
