Year-End Letter from the Executive Director:

December 6, 2019

Dear Friends of ARTsmart,

What a year it has been! I am excited to share a summary of the difference you have made in the lives of children in northern New Mexico. The enclosed annual report highlights the resources and results of our programs from July 1, 2018, to June 30, 2019.

The future of our state, nation, and planet depends upon the ability of our young people to think and act creatively. Every dollar goes to designing and conducting courses that build the problem-solving skills of an average of 7,750 children annually, many of whom live well below the poverty line.

ARTsmart is currently working to streamline our program efforts to focus on programs that have the highest impact on the youth of our community and we are especially thrilled about exciting progress with our long-standing Visiting Artist Program.

The Visiting Artist Program connects children and faculty directly with professional artists and contemporary artistic practice during the school day at Santa Fe Public Schools. It introduces skills, media, and concepts that students might not study otherwise and exposes students to diverse cultures and new aesthetic frameworks while acquainting them with potential careers in art and design fields. This cornerstone program connects local youth to Santa Fe’s thriving art community and reaches students of all grade-levels at each SFPS School with tailored workshops for every classroom it serves. Carol Schrader’s art students at El Camino Real Academy are studying the history of their namesake while creating art with local artists inspired by the themes of freedom, home, migration, and cultural identity. This impressive program, which will culminate with a school-wide celebration of learning, is possible due to a partnership with SITE Santa Fe, ARTsmart, and SFPS. Support of this program goes towards powerful collective impact within our community.

In this season of giving, won’t you join us in giving Santa Fe youth the gift of art? Your contributions are fully tax-deductible. No donation is too small in opening the eyes and mind of a child. Thank you for inspiring our youth to create, connect, and envision their full potential.

With appreciation,

Amanda Thomas
Executive Director
