We’ll start the evening off with the delightfully amusing antics of performers from local creative “social circus” group Wise Fool, whose mission is to “ignite imagination, build community, and promote social justice through performances and hands-on experiences through the art of circus, puppetry, and theater.” Entertainers will surely bring the love in hippie-themed costuming and personas who juggle, stilt-walk, and more!
Hippie Photo Booth: commemorate the groovy night with a souvenir photo of you and your party with hippie-themed props and costumes. Photos will print while you wait (and shop for silent auction items).
Honorary Artist: Kevin Box
Our Honorary Artist for 2019-20 is Santa Fe’s Kevin Box. Box’s work celebrates the delicate nature of paper in museum quality metal sculpture. His studio and sculpture garden are located on the Turquoise Trail National Scenic Byway just outside of town and he is represented by Kay Contemporary Art on Canyon Road.
He worked with Capital High School art students to create one-of-a-kind embellished “origami crane” metal and stone sculptures for the auction. Origami cranes are a symbol of peace, hope and healing in challenging times. Students placed their uniquely designed origami paper in shadow boxes of artful reflection of the journey that the paper goes through and shows in the folding process. One half of the sales of the student work go directly to the students and the other half, after expenses, goes back to their school’s art program.
Kevin will have an original sculpture for sale in the live auction, deliver a short speech at the dinner, and there will be a viewing of ARTsmart’s 2020 Honorary Artist video featuring him and his work with the Capital HS students.
