The ARTsmart Community Studio is CLOSED until further notice.

Dear Friends of ARTsmart,
We love the monsoon season here in Santa Fe but Monday, July 23rd’s rains proved to be too much for our beloved ARTsmart Community Studio (ACS). The studios, offices, library/conference room, restrooms, kitchen, gallery, and storage areas were soaked with muddy water that came in through the rear doors of the building. The most heart-breaking site of it all was the soaking-wet children’s art floating among the puddles.

This happened with 2 1/2 weeks of ARTcamp still ahead but staff was fast-acting and found replacement venues to finish out our summer program without many drastic changes to our original curriculum. Thank you to Santa Fe Southside Branch Library and Santa Fe Public Schools for taking us on in our time of need.

ARTsmart was lucky to able to hire the nice folks from Archuleta Restoration & Remodel who got to work on Tuesday afternoon and have been there everyday since. Dozens of drying fans are whirring, aerating holes are drilled into all of the walls, and other ingenious ways to try and save our carpeting, tile, and wood furniture are being implemented. We are working with our insurance company to try and cover losses and damage however we worry our limit will not be enough. We want to remind our friends and supporters that every little bit helps and to click the blue “Donate” button at the top right hand of your screen.

This setback is saddening, as we have been providing so many incredible opportunities for our community through the ARTsmart Community Studio. But the fact of the matter is it could have been much worse, and we are very thankful that it wasn’t. ARTsmart staff has been diligently working to ensure we can continue programming for our community, moving their offices to their homes or other spaces, and sandbags (thank you, ARTsmart President Patrick Gendron) are placed around the building to discourage any more water intruding on the ACS. Prayers and well-wishes, including that the rest of monsoon season be mild, are appreciated. ARTsmart is grateful for the understanding and all of the incredible support from our amazing community.

July 30-August 3: Bookmaking/Paper Making ARTcamp will be moved to the Nye Bilingual Early Childhood Facility at 3160 Agua Fria St. Santa Fe, NM 87507 with regular camp hours: 8-Noon

August 6-10: Cartooning/Graphic Novel ARTcamp will be moved to the Nye Bilingual Early Childhood Facility at 3160 Agua Fria St. Santa Fe, NM 87507 with regular camp hours: 8-Noon
