ARTsmart’s Annual Dinner & Auction -Success… Harvey Girls Style
ARTsmart thanks all who attended our annual dinner & auction with the theme: “You Will Be Served… Harvey Girls Style.” The auction was a success with works of art-offerings from Santa Fe Public School students and fine art galleries. La Fonda On the Plaza’s impeccable wait staff served up a delicious feast created by Chef Peter Vigil that would have made Fred Harvey himself proud.
Thank you to everyone who worked on this event. We extend special thanks to this year’s Honorary Artist, Barry McCuan, for mentoring our Santa Fe High School students who created amazing paintings for our silent auction and to Honorary Chair, Stephen Fried, who gave a history-filled presentation on Fred Harvey and Harvey Girledibs. Veteran Harvey Girls Beverly Ireland and Bernette Jarvis joined a costumed Fred Harvey and Harvey Girl (La Fonda tour docents Pam and Frank Buethe) to set the scene reminiscent of the hotel’s Harvey House days. The New Mexico School for the Arts student string ensemble entertained guests before the dinner, and for dessert, SFPS culinary students presented diners with their creations from the hotel kitchen – delectable raspberry enchiladas. Auctioneer Steve Talbot led the live auction which included original paintings, trips to Italy and Mexico, and a hot pink cruiser bicycle from Mellow Velo.
Thank You to All Who Participated in the Art of Home Tour
This year’s Art of Home Tour on March 3-4 featured six homes listed by real estate agents with Keller Williams Realty and works of art from ten Santa Fe art galleries: Turner Carroll Gallery, Luca Decor, Meyer Gallery, Barbara Meikle Fine Art, Liquid Light Glass, Modern Frontier, ViVO Contemporary, Ventana Fine Art, photo-eye Gallery, and Owen Contemporary.
Help ARTsmart Win “Charity of the Year” at Paseo Pottery
Paseo Pottery is throwing a grand re-opening bash Friday, March 30. To celebrate its new mission as a pottery-powered charity, it will donate 100% of this year’s proceeds to local nonprofits. Tumbleroot, Santa Fe’s first brewery and distillery will provide samples of its hand-made beverages. Those in attendance will cast a vote for their favorite local charity (we hope you will choose ARTsmart), and at night’s end the chosen non-profit will receive all of Paseo Pottery’s net profits for 2018. Come visit artists at work in the studio and stock up on pottery, photography, metal work, and one-of-a-kind pieces of ceramic art knowing that your dollars will go to a great cause. Paseo Pottery is housed in an historic adobe behind Sage Bakehouse in the Railyard District at 1424 Paseo de Peralta. Friday, March 30th, 5-9 pm. We thank Paseo Pottery for recognizing the positive impact ARTsmart makes by including us in this event.

Meet the Artist: Anderson, 3rd Grade, Spring Break ARTcamper
Spring Break has come and gone and the ARTsmart Community Studio was alive with ARTcampers. The theme of Spring Break ARTcamp was Folk Art. Meet Anderson, a 3rd grade ARTcamper. He is proud of his painting of a flower in a vase with a bright striped background. When asked what he liked about art, he answered, “Drawing. I could draw all day.” Anderson was never without his sketch book during camp and he filled it with pencil drawings of cartoon characters.
